India: A Nation of Thousands of gods

"You shall have no other gods before me." Deut 5:7 NIV

Southern India is predominately Hindu. Their gods number in the thousands. 70% of the population lives in rural areas where poverty is predominant. A typical village has an 80-90% illiteracy rate. Women are often oppressed and many are subject to regular beatings by their husbands.

The challenges to spread the gospel are great. Most rural pastors have little education. Few have been to bible school or seminary. Their theology is often mixed with misunderstanding. While Hindi is the national language, most in rural areas speak only their regional dialect. There are over 30 languages and 2000 dialects in India.

Grace Extended Ministry has been asked to partner with several others in India to train and equip pastors and lay leaders and to proclaim the gospel. We are planning a 2010 trip to train and equip pastors and lay leaders, conduct women’s conferences, put on a marriage retreat, and teach and train on prayer and evangelism at prayer conferences.

We already have people on the ground in India praying for our ministry and for the lost souls of their nation. These are earnest intercessors. One of these is Pastor Abraham who lives near the village of Minjur in an even smaller village. Pastor Abraham has a heart for prayer and evangelism and is currently mentoring several young men in this area. Another is Pastor Lamech who lives outside of Chennai. He and his wife Jasmine have a heart for women and marriages and offer ongoing training and support. Like Pastor Abraham, they know that for God to move in India, it will take much prayer. Let us know if you would like join them in prayer. Let us know if you would like to join our 2010 India team.
